coaster reaching speeds in excess of 60 mph. Ravine Flyer II also has 6 tunnels and crosses over Peninsula
Drive on 165 foot arched bridge. Coming for the 2009 season is the Mega Disk’O ride, a giant spinning disc that
travels back and forth on a 120 foot track, soaring to 50 feet on each end and is bound to thrill future riders.

Celebrate Erie was held August 14th to 17th, bringing
downtown Erie, PA alive as the premier festival took
place on State Street, between 4th and 12th streets.
Food, music, children’s events, and endless
entertainment all took place in the downtown district,
celebrating all that Erie has to offer. The event concluded Sunday night,
August 17th, when Zambelli Firworks displayed their world class
fireworks over the Bayfront at Dobbins Landing.

Ravine Flyer II Opens At Waldameer
Last season, with its first new roller coaster in over 50 years, Waldameer
Park debuted the Ravine Flyer II, a 3,000 foot long wooden thriller. If
you're not screaming coming down the first 120 drop, be sure to check out
the picturesque views of Lake Erie the Ravine Flyer II offers. Along with the
banked oval track that stretches over 3/8th a
mile. It is a member of the Mid-Atlantic
Asphalt Racing Alliance and hosts the USAR
Hooters Pro Cup, Whelen All-American
Series, and the Lake Erie 200, as well as
other events.

Some of the popular animals at the zoo
include polar bears, lions, orangutans, and
leopards. The Zoo has a children's section
where you can get up close with the animals.
Presque Isle Downs is a racino, featuring horse racing
5 months of the year and house a 24 hour casino all
year long. The Downs first full season began on May
9th, and features a 1-mile synthetic oval track that is
made of a mixture of sand, rubber, and fiber with a
wax coating called Tapeta Footings. The casino
features over 48,000 square feet of gaming space and houses 2,000 slot
machines. The complex also has 6 restaurants and bars, including the
Clubhouse Restaurant and Lounge, where you can dine while overlooking
the Presque Isle Downs racetrack.

Family First Sports Park
is a complex located
south of I-90, a 1/2 mile
off Upper Peach Street.
The facility has many
activities, including batting cages,
miniature golf, go-karts, water bumper
carts, arcade games, a golf dome, soccer
fields, and the family fun center. Family
First also runs a number of sports leagues,
ranging from lacrosse to flag football.
Located in the Erie Maritime Museum on the Bayfront
is a replica of the U.S. Brig Niagra, a ship which
played a pivotal role in the Battle of Lake Erie and
the victory of Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry during
the War of 1812.
In 1820, the original was sunk in Misery Bay on
Presque Isle, where she sat until finally raised in
1913. The ship began restoration that wasn't
finished until 1963. In 1988, more extensive work
was done on the ship, nearly rebuilding it from the ground up to return it to
sailing condition and it's former glory. Today, the U.S. Brig Niagra can either
be found at the Erie Maritime Museum, or at one of the many destinations
she sails to.

Perhaps the most notable monument in Erie is the Perry Monument. Located at the eastern end of Presque,
the monument is a 101 foot structure standing next to misery bay.
